Europe's best-known 1 ounce gold bullion coin comes from Vienna, or more precisely from the Austrian Mint. Since its first issue in 1989, it has quickly established itself, at times it was even listed as the best-selling coin in the world by the World Gold Council. The Philharmonic is particularly popular not only in Europe, but also in North America and Japan. The Vienna Philharmonic is the most important bullion coin with a euro face value. Until the introduction of the euro in 2002, the face value was 2000 schillings. To date, the mintage of this ounce coin is around 10 million pieces.
